Which test do I need?
- Nobody hears you in calls: the mic test shows your level in dBFS and records a few seconds to play back.
- Getting ready for a meeting: the webcam and mic test checks camera, microphone and lighting with one click.
- Blurry or choppy video: the webcam test measures real resolution and frame rate.
- Sound on one side only: the speaker test plays left, right, a sweep and bass tones.
- A key doesn’t respond: the keyboard test lights up every key you press, also as a laptop layout.
- Keys drop out when you press several: the ghosting test shows how many keys your keyboard registers at once.
- Double clicks you didn’t make: the mouse test counts unwanted double clicks.
- Is my gaming gear as fast as the box says: the mouse polling rate test and keyboard polling rate test estimate how often they report.
- The character moves on its own: the gamepad tester measures stick drift and suggests a deadzone.
- A dot on the screen that never changes: the dead pixel test fills the screen with solid colours and estimates the refresh rate.
How these tests work
Every test runs in your browser on your own device. The microphone and camera are opened only when you press the start button, never on page load, and a Stop button releases them again. Nothing is recorded or uploaded. A mic recording stays in the tab’s memory until you download it or reload the page.
You don’t need to install anything. The tests work in current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari, on computers and phones. When a browser can’t do something, such as picking the speaker output, the test says so instead of guessing.
When a test fails
A failed test is useful: it tells you whether the problem is the device, the system or an app. Our guides take it from there, with exact menu names for each system: microphone not working on Windows, camera not working on a laptop, laptop keyboard keys not working and controller not detected or stick drift. All of them are listed under guides.
Frequently asked questions
Are these device tests free?
Yes. Every test is free, needs no account and runs without installing anything.
Do you record my microphone or camera?
No. The tests analyse the signal on your device. Nothing is uploaded, and the devices are released when you press Stop or leave the page.
Do the tests work on a phone?
Yes. The mic, camera, speaker and screen tests work in phone browsers too. The keyboard, mouse and gamepad tests need that device connected; many phones accept a Bluetooth controller or keyboard.
Why does a test say my browser can’t do something?
Some features exist only in some browsers, for example choosing the speaker output. In-app browsers (Instagram, TikTok, Facebook) often block the mic and camera completely. Open the page in Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari.
