Does my device work? One click tells you
DeviceKite is a small lab for the things you plug in, hold and talk into. Each test answers one question fast, then tells you what the numbers mean.
- The mic test shows your level in dBFS, your room noise and a recording you can play back.
- The webcam test compares the resolution and frame rate your camera claims with what it really delivers.
- The webcam and mic test is a one-click check before a call.
- The speaker test plays left, right, a sweep and bass tones for speakers and headphones.
- The keyboard test lights up every key on a layout for your language. The mouse test catches unwanted double clicks.
- The gamepad tester measures stick drift, and the dead pixel test fills your screen with solid colours.
All of them are in device tests.
Skill tests for quick hands
When the gear checks out, test yourself. The reaction time test measures how fast you respond in milliseconds. The CPS test and the spacebar clicker count clicks and presses per second. The aim trainer times your hits, and the typing test measures words per minute. Your bests stay in your browser; there is no account and no leaderboard. More in skill tests.
What stays on your device
Everything. The microphone and camera open only when you press a start button, never on page load, and a Stop button releases them so the system indicator turns off. Sound and video are analysed in your browser and never uploaded. A mic recording lives in the tab’s memory until you download it or reload. Skill results are saved in your browser only, and you can clear them at any time.
When something doesn’t work
A failed test is a good start: it tells you whether the problem is the device, the system or an app. Our guides take it from there with exact menu names, for example microphone not working on Windows, allowing the mic and camera in your browser or laptop camera not working.
Frequently asked questions
How do I test my microphone online?
Open the mic test, press Start microphone test, allow the mic and speak. The meter shows your level, and Record 5 s lets you hear yourself back.
Is it safe to allow my camera and microphone here?
Yes. The tests run on your device, nothing is recorded or uploaded, and Stop releases the camera and mic.
Do I need to install anything?
No. Every test runs in a current browser such as Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari, on a computer or a phone.
Is DeviceKite free?
Yes. All tests and guides are free and need no account. The site is paid for by ads, which never appear inside a test.
